The Toronto Railway Museum offers a fascinating indoor experience for families, where kids can explore real trains and learn about railway history.

What to expect

Step inside and discover a collection of historic locomotives and railway cars, providing a unique opportunity for children to see and interact with these impressive machines up close. It's a great way to spark an interest in transportation and history, especially on a day when outdoor activities aren't ideal.

Best for

Perfect for families with school-aged children interested in trains and Canadian history.

Charming little museum with a great window into history. Particularly liked walking through the sleeping car and seeing the history of the roundhouse. Love that it's next to the Steam Whistle Brewery, which had good food.

We did not wait to enter. The inside has some you trains for little kids to play with, I thought this was a VERY great idea! Inside has alot of information if you take the time to look, scan the codes and listen. There is also a train simulator. Indoors can be slightly overwhelming as everything is crammed into a small area. The outdoor guided tour was informative and interactive. We enjoyed learning about the old rail system and exploring inside the carts. The gift shop was lovely, however there needs to be a way to exit the gift shop where patrons of the mini train are not taking up the space. There is a wide deck but everyone waiting for the mini train was lined up and there was really no where for my family to exit with space or getting in the way of the mini train ride. Also I think that some of the staff could have been a little more upbeat to make the experience joyful. Everyone seemed very cut and dry. All in all we enjoyed our time, it is brief but affordable.

I only really had time to check out the outside displays of the museum while I was there, but from what I saw, I definitely enjoyed it. I spent time reading all the panels and checking out all the different trains that were on display.

Fun visit, right next to the CN Tower, worth a visit. Can’t go inside the trains but still fun. We took the little train ride - fun but at $10 per person, it’s expensive for what was maybe a 3-4 min ride.

Visited the Toronto Railway Museum today, 3rd time, but today under foggy cold day light. Got lucky to see a huge locomative train roll out onto the "turntable", I am not sure but probably its a diesel one. blowing bell and whistling continuously for the show. felt like stepping back in time. It stayed for around 20 mins and went back into the garage or shade whatever it called. Sharing the videos here, such a cool moment. I m lucky to see the gigantic locomotive rolling towards the CN tower- The tower which was made on top of rail tracks...
