  Beware the Management Our experience with the management at Joyful Robins was extremely disappointing and emotionally draining - mainly as a result of multiple instances of miscommunication and lack of transparency. First, when we toured in April, we were told that if we submitted a $250 deposit that same day, our daughter would have a guaranteed September spot. We sent the deposit immediately after returning home, only to be informed that September was already full and she’d be placed in December instead. We felt deceived, but with no other childcare options at the time, we reluctantly stayed enrolled. In June, we received an unexpected email demanding a hefty first-month enrollment fee of $1,695 — a charge that had never been mentioned during enrollment or in any communication afterward. Apparently it was due within the first 2 weeks of enrollment. Without any reminders and without our consent, the center deducted the money directly from our account. If we had known about this fee back in April, we would have never enrolled our child here given our first bad experience. When we raised the issue, they came across as rude, dismissive, and blamed us for “not knowing” about the fee, despite the fact that their staff never provided the required parent handbook or disclosed this information at any point until June. After several back and forth emails where we kept requesting our money back, they eventually refunded 50% of the fee as "settlement" but did not acknowledge their mistakes or provide evidence that the fees had indeed been disclosed previously. While I understand the daycare was new in April and perhaps still finding its footing, the refusal to take responsibility, combined with unprofessional conduct, is unacceptable. It is absolutely unfair that parents should have to pay for miscommunication from their end. For first-time parents, daycare hunting is already a battle — but dealing with lack of transparency and unprofessional conduct is just exhausting and distressing. Thankfully, we will not be sending our child here, especially now that we’ve found far better options (a small miracle in today’s childcare market). To be fair, I cannot speak for the caregivers themselves — they may well be good. EDIT: Management in comments is still evading the fact that their staff forgot to send us the required parent handbook or communicate their fee policies before or during enrollment and yet took money from our account account even though we brought this up with them later. We aren't saying that policies are wrong, we are saying that they were not communicated to us and it is very much factually correct. I will be happy to share all our written communications with joyful robins to anyone interested. Management has sent us an email threatening legal action and getting our review removed by Google if we don't remove it ourselves. Looks like they are threatening legal action to one star reviews. We once again asked them to share evidence that any of our claims are untrue, they haven't provided any. We haven't made any formal complaints to the Ministry yet as we are concerned that the parents and caregivers working there will be affected :(. Proper businesses don't behave like this.
